History

Intent: We provide an exciting and engaging History curriculum which enables children to develop their curiosity about the past. Our children will develop skills such as questioning investigating evidence which enables them to communicate and understand how and why significant changes have occurred to both individuals and events locally, globally and nationally.

Implementation: We ensure that children have the opportunity to learn using a variety of historical sources. These include artefacts, themed experience days, books and materials which are accessible through the use of technology to enhance and bring the history curriculum to life. Children will also develop their independent research skills through enquiry-based learning. Teachers teach aspects of the history curriculum throughout a half termly topic where cross curricular opportunities intertwine. Key knowledge and vocabulary will be revisited and consolidated by teachers. We ensure that children have the opportunity to convey what they already know as well as what they would like to find out and investigate. Children and teachers can also review and evaluate each individual session by the schools traffic light self-assessment.

Impact: Children will feel confident to explain key knowledge they have found out throughout a topic with further knowledge being evidenced in literacy and topic books. Children will continue to inspire and to seek curiosity about Britain’s past and that of the wider world.
