Our stimulating and engaging environments encourages our children to be independent, curious and resilient learners preparing them for life-long learning and success.

We are currently in the process of creating and delivering a new curriculum so some of our curriculum documents are currently being developed. Please read our new curriculum intent below.

Southbourne Infant School – Curriculum Intent 2025

The purpose of our curriculum is to ensure the children at Southbourne Infant School become independent, responsible, lifelong learners.

Our curriculum is based on teaching the basic knowledge and skills of each subject in a joyful, fun, active and purposeful way, creating learning experiences that create awe and wonder which engage our learners.

Our curriculum teaches our children about our locality and the places and people within this.

Relationships and kindness are at the heart of everything we do.  We know without positive relationships children will not reach their full potential. We create a nurturing environment in which children feel safe.

Independence and responsibility are key to our ‘behaviour for learning’ curriculum which teaches the behaviours children need to be effective learners.

Creativity and Curiosity are built into our curriculum through an enquiry based approach and with opportunities for children to be creative in their choices of how to show what they know.  Our play based continuous provision approach provides opportunities for our learners to practise what they know independently, and lead their own learning following their interests. This approach supports language development and personal and social development.
