Southbourne Infant School supports a variety of charities each year, this usually includes; Children in Need, Comic Relief, Sport Relief etc.
MELON MISSION We support a school in Kenya, that teaches street children from the slums in Nakuru. The school is currently run in an old cowshed. A new school is being built so we have held sponsored events to raise money to buy bricks and help to build a new school. In 2015 we raised £1500, and in 2016 we raised £1285. In October, Mrs Partridge travelled to Kenya to work alongside the teachers for a week and to see how our money had been spent. We then launched the 'Solemates' Appeal and collected shoes that had been grown out of to be sent to the children at the school.
At the end of the summer term, we held a sponsored walk around the school grounds. Children from the Infant and Junior schools walked together; it was fantastic to see siblings, family and friends walking together to raise money, The weather just about stayed dry until we had finished walking! Thanks to parents and families who walked with us too.
We raised an amazing £2,500, thank you all so much, every penny will make a huge difference to the children at Melon School. Mrs Partridge will be going to Nakuru again in October half term to work with the teachers and see how our money is being spent.
We also support a local charity called BEATS. the charity was set up following the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami which claimed many lives. The charity works in Indonesia to support children's homes and schools, where we help to pay for a teacher.
